Africa becomes the World’s center for slavery

According to the 2018 Global Slavery Index, Africa records the highest rate of modern day enslavement in the world with 9.2 million Africans living in servitude. Armed conflict, state-sponsored forced labor, and forced marriages are the main causes behind the huge figure, consisting of the most marginalized members of society, such as minorities, women and children. Read more

Wealthy governments accused of promoting fossil fuel development in Africa 

A recent study conducted by the Oil Change International, a clean energy advocacy group, revealed that 60% of public aid for energy projects was spent on fossil fuels, compared with 18% on renewables. The study confirmed that governments that were moving away from fossil fuels at their home country continued to fund fossil fuel projects in Africa, where communities are experiencing the worst impact from climate change. Read more
