Keene State College has been honoured for its sustainability efforts. The school is one of the nine colleges and universities across the United States honoured for commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability and health, and wellness in all parts of campus life.
The U.S. Department of Education recently gave this recognition as part of its 2017 Green Ribbon Schools project. Officials say over the years, the college’s well-intentioned but less than systemic efforts have evolved into a comprehensive vision with strong buy-in from administrators, faculty and students.
The college’s mission statement includes environmental stewardship and sustainability as core values. It was also recognized for achievements in replacing heating oil with renewable biofuel made from recycled vegetable oil, and emphasizing organic landscaping using compost made from dining hall waste.
