Belmont Forum, Future Earth, and the Joint Programming Initiative Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (JPI Oceans), launch a major funding call for proposals for ocean sustainability research.
In view of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) as the overall framework, the aim of this is to bring together researchers and experts across the globe to innovate solutions that accelerate sustainable use of oceans and minimize the effects from global change.
A total of 14 funders from 12 countries have committed in total over 18 million dollars of cash and in-kind resources for this call.
Policymakers, resource managers, industries, citizens and other societal partners are invited to participate as well as researchers from Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Comoros and Madagascar, via the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
This call aims to support medium-sized research projects with 3 to 4 years duration. A two-step process will apply, with a mandatory pre-registration of projects at the first step, and submission of invited full proposals at the second step.
Thematic areas for this funding opportunity were developed through a global scoping process lead by Future Earth, followed by additional consultations co-led by Future Earth and the Belmont Forum.
Deadline for pre-registrations (pre-proposals): January 31, 2019.
Applications shall be submitted via the Belmont Forum application portal.
