Google LLC, an American-based multinational technology company has been declared the winner of the Zayed Future Energy Prize for Best Corporation in commemoration of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week which kicked-off today, January 15, 2018.
The award, which was established by the UAE leadership in 2008 in honour of the environmental, social, and economic sustainability advocated by the nation’s founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; is a public endorsement of the giant corporation’s work in renewables and clean energy .
Also as a part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, this year, the Zayed Future Energy Prize has an increased focus on the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.
Delivering the opening keynote address this morning, Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and chairman of clean energy company, Masdar emphasized that investing in the youth in this digital age is important as it will sustain and secure the future of generations to come.
He also said that technology thrives on three fundamental pillars of sustainability: economic, social and environmental.
Other winners today included a Lifetime Achievement Award for Shuji Nakamura, who invented the LED light, and French company Sunna Design won the SME award for its work on smart solar street lights for harsh climates. Last year it completed a major project in Nigeria.
