HIV/AIDS Threat: USA Stops Supply of Anti Retroviral Treatment Drugs to Nigeria

United States (US) and donor agencies have withdrawn from  Nigeria their 95 percent support which has ensured availability of ART drugs and sundry support services to HIV/AIDS infected Nigerians over the years. In addition, it has withdrawn support for laboratory services and has scaled down its services in the 737 councils of the country.

Reacting to this development, a member of the House of Representatives Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, Mr. Afe Olowokere declared that about 1.8 million Nigerians infected with the Human Immuno Deficiency virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) are at the risk of dying this year.

To save the country from a wave of HIV/Aids epidemic, the lawmaker said that the nation and the rest of the global AIDS community have adopted the 90-90-90 target by 2030 and to achieve this, the government has to put money into the national response to AIDS.
