In September 2017, Arctic Infrastructure (AI) and the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Nigeria will be hosting the ‘Lagos Development Envision Lab’, a residence training programme bringing together selected talented youth from informal settlements with young built environment professionals to share knowledge on alternative development strategies for the city of Lagos.
While the argument about the right model for the development of Lagos persists, the capacity to understanding the fundamental challenges facing the city is inadequate. Many built environment practitioners can neither establish the reasons for slum proliferation nor understand the presence of street vendors in the city. Considerable number of urban planners, architects, cost estimators and land surveyors, among other built environment professionals, do not have a clear understanding of the city’s fundamental development challenges, hence their inability to initiate, create or develop appropriate measures.
Therefore, Arctic Infrastructure (AI) and the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Nigeria are calling for applications from young professionals in the development sector on the housing delivery in Lagos. Each participant is expected to submit a letter of application to participate in the Lab addressed to Arctic Infrastructure, a curriculum vitae (not more than 3 pages) with functional email address, Evidence of age declaration (Birth certificate, LASRRA Card or other nationally recognized age bearing document), a 2-page concept note on how a cohort will transform housing in the city of Lagos and copies of academic and professional credentials.
Application closes on May 31, 2017.
