  1. Senior Manager, Global Delivery – Africa: The Senior Manager, Global Delivery – Africa will be an integral member of the 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) Global Delivery Team, which is part of the City Solutions team. S/he will be responsible for overseeing the effective deployment of 100RC Platform Partner tools and 100RC solutions across 100RC member cities in Africa.

Type: Full Time

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a key member of the Global Delivery Team, who is responsible for inspiring and leading the coordination between 100RC, City, and Platform Partner representatives in facilitating the implementation of City Solutions tools and resources in 100RC member cities in Africa.
  • Work with the City and Practice Management Africa Team – the team which directly manages the relationship with 100RC member cities in the region – to understand and stay informed about the evolving priorities and needs of 100RC member cities in Africa. This work includes the review of city resilience strategy documents at key stages, and providing relevant feedback to city and CPM team on 100RC the design and implementation of initiatives, as well as available 100RC resources to support these efforts.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant work experience in urban-related topics and/or specific industry expertise (i.e., finance, transportation, economic development) in Africa
  • Proven experience managing and implementing projects with city, regional, and/or national governments in Africa
  • Familiarity with finance and public private partnership development is preferred
  • Strong project management skills and cross-sectoral (public, private, nonprofit) engagements. Familiarity with relevant corporations and organizations in Africa, including NGOs, research institutions and institutional actors active in the field of urban planning, urban infrastructure, or economic development ideally involved in mobilizing foundational, intergovernmental or other funding opportunities directed to the urban agenda
  • Ability to develop a vision, shape strategy, drive progress, encourage innovation, and take strong ownership under dynamic, constantly evolving conditions
  • Demonstrated team player and ability to effectively and constructively work across geographies with an international, multi-cultural, and cross-functional team
  • Exceptional interpersonal, and communication skills – the Senior Manager will serve as a strong brand representative for 100RC for partners, cities, CROs, etc.
  • Fluency in English required, and proficiency with other regional languages (e.g., Arabic, French, Amharic, Swahili) strongly preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the UK.

  1. Regional Director, Africa: The Regional Director, Africa will play a key role in deepening the impact of 100 Resilient Cities by helping enliven, deepen and maximize the organization’s efforts, particularly with member cities and partners across the African continent. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Improving the Resilience and Planning Capacity of African Cities
  • Team Leadership, Management and Program Delivery
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration and Organizational Management

Basic Qualifications

  • Authentic connection to urban resilience and planning in Sub-Saharan Africa, and passion for 100RC’s work
  • Minimum of 12 years related professional experience; significant experience working within cities or local governments in Africa and relating them to a global network required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Required English with proficiency in a second language of French, Arabic, Amharic, Kinyarwanda, or Swahili
  • Master’s degree or above required
  • Must be authorized to work in the UK
  • Ability to travel extensively within the region and internationally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sophisticated and practical understanding of urban planning, particularly city government functions, structures, and processes
  • Experience in urban and/or resilience issues such as urban planning, public health, disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation, vulnerable populations, mobility, etc., particularly in the African continent
  • Expertise in comparative analysis of urban planning and policy at a regional and global level
  • Experience managing and supporting high performing teams to reach ambitious goals
  • Strong ability to drive progress, have vision, promote innovation, and display ownership under ambiguous and dynamic conditions
  • Experience engaging with actors and organizations across sectors (public, private, nonprofit); strong political acumen and influencing skills for working with senior government officials including mayors and ministers
  • Strong professional representation of 100RC, interpersonal relationship abilities, intercultural knowledge and appreciation, and strategic partnership building skills
  • Experience developing networks and building communities
  • Experience working both in a developed economy context, as well as developing market
  • Strong process and project execution skills

  1. Program Manager – Africa: 100 Resilient Cities is looking for a Program Manager in the London office to support the Africa City and Practice Management (CPM) team. The Program Manager will report directly to the Associate Director for Africa and will cover a portfolio of cities in North, East and Southern Africa. Program Managers work collaboratively to provide strategic and program planning; project management support; technical and organizational assistance; and facilitate efficient and quality communications with our member cities and internal teams. Duties include, but are not limited to: 
  • External Project Management
  • Internal Project Management
  • Information Sharing
  • Research
  • Desired Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree with 3-5 year’s related experience in fields such as international development, urban planning, public health, social equity, city management, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English required, and fluency with at least one portfolio-specific language (Amharic, Arabic, French, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili) is strongly preferred
  • Authentic connection to urban resilience and urban planning in Sub-Saharan Africa, and passion for 100RC’s mission.
  • Experience engaging with city and national governments in Sub-Saharan Africa as well as actors and organizations across sectors (public, private, nonprofit)
  • Strong political acumen and influencing skills for working with senior government officials including mayors and ministers.
  • Exceptional project management skills and can skillfully use software to produce outputs including Excel, Powerpoint, Salesforce, etc.
  • Solid operational skills, including ability to work and deliver projects to deadlines independently and proactively
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and across teams; and seek and provide constructive feedback
  • Strong interpersonal skills; intercultural knowledge and appreciation; and strategic partnership building skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the UK.
