Aid and Assistance: World Vision Donates Wheelchairs to Seven Disabled Children in Mzimba

Mzimba — As one way of ensuring that children with disability are not denied the right to education, World Vision Malawi has donated wheelchairs worth one million Kwacha to seven disabled children in Khuyu in the area of Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba District.

Speaking during the donation Friday, Khuyu Area Programme Manager, Kasuzi Connex Mbaluko, said children with disability are faced with mobility challenges which sometimes affect their education.

Mbaluko said some children fail to progress in their education because they cannot walk on their own and rely on parents or relatives to carry them on their back to school; a situation he said sometimes becomes difficult.

“We as World Vision, felt duty bound to assist the children because many fail to attend school because they cannot walk on their own and have to wait for their parents and relatives to carry them on their back to school,” said Mbaluko, hoping that with the wheel chairs, the benefiting disabled children would be accordingly be assisted.

Meanwhile, the Area Programme Manager has promised his organization (World Vision) would extend the programme of wheelchair distribution to disabled children to other areas within Khuyu and beyond this area in the district.
