The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a fund within the framework of the UNFCCC founded as a mechanism to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change. ‘The Green Climate Fund will support projects, programmes, policies and other activities in developing country Parties using thematic funding windows’. It is intended to be the centrepiece of efforts to raise Climate Finance of $100 billion a year by 2020
During its upcoming 12th meeting, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board is set to discuss a number of pending issues related to fully operationalizing the Fund, and its policies and procedures. Among other things, the Board intends to consider proposals from entities wishing to be accredited by the Fund. The Board governs and supervises the GCF based on guidance from the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, including on matters relating to policies, programme priorities and eligibility criteria and matters related thereto.
