This High Level Political Forum (HLPF) has a central role in overseeing a network of follow-up and review processes at the global level, working coherently with the General Assembly, ECOSOC and other relevant organs and forums, in accordance with existing mandates.
The co-facilitators of the General Assembly informal consultations on the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable Development at the global level, Belize and Denmark, will hold the first informal consultation with Stakeholders on April 1, 2016. The forum will facilitate sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, and provide political leadership, guidance and recommendations for follow-up. It will promote system-wide coherence and coordination of sustainable development policies.
Stakeholders are invited to send interventions for the consultation on twitter using the hash tag ‘#2030followup’. Messages sent using this hash tag will be collected before the meeting and shared with the co-facilitators.
Stakeholders are invited to provide their views based on three sets of questions provided by the co-facilitators. They are:
- Inclusivity at the High Level Political Forum (HLPF): The 2030 Agenda highlights that the HLPF will support participation in the follow-up and review processes by the major groups and other relevant stakeholders (OP 89). Some of the questions, that would be fruitful to have stakeholders’ input on, would be how stakeholders could be included in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda? In what ways can stakeholders inform and enrich the work of the HLPF? What innovative practices could be set in place to engage stakeholders?
- Themes and thematic reviews: It has been decided that the HLPF will have a thematic focus reflecting the integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development, while also conducting thematic reviews of the SDGs. What would be important to keep in mind when deciding on themes? Which kinds of themes would allow the HLPF to carry out meaningful reviews of the SDGs?
- Ensuring the integrated and indivisible nature of the SDGs: The follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda needs to reflect the integrated nature of the Goals as well as the interconnectivity between them.
In what ways would the HLPF be able to conduct focused and systematic thematic reviews of progress on the Goals while also respecting the integrated and indivisible nature of the Goals?
